Is It Friday Yet?

Yes, it is. Monday seemed like it endured for about three weeks. Yesterday, I kept arguing with myself all day about whether it was Wednesday or Thursday. Today, finally, is Friday.

It has been a busy week, as I continue to work hard to grow my law practice. I remain optimistic about economic recovery.

Training this week has been roadwork (or "coldwork," given the outdoor temperatures around here lately), shadowboxing, and mental training. I am starting a new sports mind-training program based on neuro-linguistic programming (NLP). I'll post about that soon. I'll also post about various content I find online. There are a lot of collections of photos, videos, and free (public domain) e-books available, not to mention Web sites and blogs galore.

Minimal Training Today

As it turns out, I did very little training today. I managed to squeeze in 15 minutes of roadwork. It was cold out there--about five degrees below zero. Even so, it was the time pressures of a hectic work day, rather than the cold air, that limited the amount of time I had. This evening, I did some shadowboxing at home. I don't have a great deal of space, but the shadowboxing was more to be able to say I had done something.

Helpful Article about Shadowboxing at How-to-box.com

Over at How-to-box.com, Aaron Luhning offers a number of useful tips in his article "How to Shadowbox."

Although shadowboxing is a basic training technique, like any of the basics, I don't think a boxer can practice it too much or ever get so good at it that he doesn't need to practice it anymore.

While you're there, check out the rest of the How-to-box site. It contains many helpful pointers, videos, and discussions. Overall, it's a great site and I hope you'll find it beneficial.

Snow Training!

It's not the most conventional, but today's training consisted of 25 minutes of shoveling snow. I am hoping to get into a more regular gym routine this week. As for roadwork, with all the snow and ice on the ground (not to mention the cold air), the treadmills at GoTime Chicago are starting to look a lot more attractive.

Has anyone else noticed that Great Lakes snow smells like fish? I guess it's not really surprising, but still interesting.

Some Roadwork and Shadowboxing on Tuesday

Work has been getting nuts again. Somehow, I am going to balance all of this. 25 minutes today.

Saturday Brief Workout

Just 16 minutes today. It's something. Available time on weekends can vary a lot but, as I have mentioned earlier, I am still figuring out the routine. It's just great to be developing a new routine!

Thursday Training

1 hour and 10 minutes of roadwork and shadowboxing. It was cooler and less humid today, so that was a nice change.

Saturday Update

Did 34 minutes of roadwork and shadowboxing on Thursday, and 31 minutes today. The humidity was a challenge. Both days, I wanted to quit after 20 minutes because I was working hard, but I managed to do another 10 minutes and add a little more to it. :-)

Tuesday's Training

Because of a club meeting and vote on Monday, we are having our practice today. It was a small group today: Bernard, Cory, Mike B., and I were there. The Judge passed through the boxing room near the end of our workout and said hello, but did not train with us. Bernard can't be there tomorrow, so this was our only scheduled group workout this week. We'll be back on our regular Monday-Wednesday schedule next week. Here's the breakdown of today's workout.
  • 28 minutes of roadwork
  • 7 rounds on the pads with Bernard
  • 6 rounds of shadowboxing
  • 2 rounds on the heavy bag
  • 2 rounds on the double-end bag
  • 1 round on the uppercut bag
  • 1 round of stretching
That makes 19 rounds plus the roadwork. Not too bad. I am looking forward to resuming a regular schedule next week. Of course, not long after that I will be going on vacation for a while, but things don't work out perfectly, do they?
